1. A Russian plane crashed over the Egyptian peninsula while transporting 224 passengers, who have all perished, to St. Petersburg. The source of the crash is being investigated.

2. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey and his political party, the AKP, won approximately 49.4% of the popular vote and a majority of the seats in Parliament in a reversal from the mere 41% the party won at the general election last June.

3. Today, President Obama signed a bipartisan 2-year budget deal to avert a potential shutdown; the deadline to raise the debt limit was Tuesday, November 3rd.

4. China repealed its controversial one-child policy this week; however, this new two-child policy for urban couples will not be implemented until March. No word has been given about the status of the illegal second children already living.

5. In Colorado Springs on Saturday morning, an unidentified shooter killed three citizens before city police officers shot and killed the suspect.

6. Chipotle, a Mexican food chain, shut down 43 restaurants in the Pacific Northwest amid concerns of an E. coli outbreak. 19 confirmed E. coli cases have been reported so far; these are not necessarily all from Chipotle.

7. CSISD’s bond election will be held on November 3rd to attempt to raise funds to remedy overcrowding at the intermediate and middle schools. Additional funds will go to renovations, new technology, and new buses.

8. Due to a key win by junior Tory Templin, the Consol tennis team will advance to state over rival CSHS. The final score was 10-9 matches.

9. The Kansas City Royals won the World Series against the New York Mets 4-1. This win is the second for the Royals; their last was in 1985.

10. The corporation TransCanada suspended its permit application for the controversial Keystone XL Pipeline.
