1. Saturday, a 5.6-magnitude earthquake shook at least six states in the Southern USA. The Oklahoma Corporation Commission is telling operators to shut down 35 disposal wells that may have played a role.

2. Florida residents took shelter Thursday night as Hurricane Hermine bore down on the Sunshine State’s Panhandle region.

3. Huge crowds from around the world gathered to celebrate Mother Teresa, a Catholic nun who devoted her life to helping India’s poor, being declared a saint by Pope Francis in the Vatican.

4. Turkey eradicated ISIS from its border regions. ISIS has reportedly lost control of the last strip of its territory along the Syrian-Turkish border, according to sources and Turkish state-run news agency Anadolu.

5. Aggie football legend Johnny Manziel is registered to take classes at Texas A&M again after being released from the Cleveland Browns. He is still facing legal proceedings after being accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

6. The Texas A&M football team won their season opener Saturday against UCLA, 31-24.

7. Olive Garden delivers free meals to local first responders. 800 Olive Gardens across the country are doing the same thing, continuing a Labor Day tradition that’s been going on for 15 years.

8. President Obama sides with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, saying that he was exercising his constitutional right to protest when he sat during the national anthem. 

9. Police confirm that before noon on Saturday, they found a man who looked ready to jump off the bridge at the southbound Rock Prairie exit ramp, resulting in Highway 6 closing down. The CSPD Hostage Negotiation Team, SWAT team, and CSFD were successful in negotiating him down. He’s been taken to the hospital for evaluation, and the highway reopened later that evening.

 

10. Space robot Philae was thought to be forever lost, but scientists announced Sunday that the European Space Agency’s comet lander has come back. New images downloaded from the Rosetta probe in orbit showed the long-lost Philae wedged in a crack between some rocks.
