The Roar spoke with freshman Hunter Scott about his involvement in the varsity swim team.
How long have you been swimming?
Since I was seven.
How did you get involved with swimming in the first place?
When we moved here, our house had a pool, and my mom didn’t want me to drown.
What is your favorite part of being on the swim team?
Well, I like the meets where we go as a team; that’s fun. You get to cheer for all your teammates.
What is the hardest part of being on the swim team?
Time management–some days I swim over 4 hours so it takes up a lot of your day. You have to learn how to get stuff done.
What is it like having two other siblings [Rachel & Danielle] on the swim team with you?
It’s definitely a lot to live up to. They both have gotten awards for swimming, and they keep their GPAs up.
What is the most difficult set you’ve ever had to do?
We do a lot of hard sets. The hardest one is probably 100 100s–100 meters is four laps.
What are some traditions on the varsity swim team?
Well, for practice, we have the freshman tradition. After practice, we have to pick up everything–all the kickboards, fins, paddles. We also have a really weird cheer. All the seniors get on one side of the pool and yell something, and we have to yell something back. It’s pretty much gibberish because I don’t exactly know what it means. Then, at the end, one of the seniors yell, “Tigers, what is your profession?”
