  1. After multiple rounds of voting, the House of Representatives elected Rep. Kevin McCarthy as speaker on the 15th ballot on saturday, Jan. 7. 
  2. Consol’s boys varsity basketball team won 71-53 against Lake Creek on Tuesday, Jan. 10. The team is set to play against Montgomery at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13.
  3. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) system halted domestic flights across the US due to a system outage on Wednesday, Jan. 11, causing delays and cancellations of thousands of flights across the country. 
  4. Universal Parks & Resorts announced plans to build two new amusement parks—sized for a regional audience—in Frisco, Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada, on Wednesday, Jan. 11.
