The Roar Reviews: A Face Mask

by Ian Curtis, staff reporter

It’s no secret that Covid-19 has brought many changes to how we live, work, and survive. But one of the most visible is the widespread use of face masks to prevent the spread of the virus, especially from people who may not be aware that they are carriers of Covid-19.

With the CDC recommending the use of cloth face coverings in public, my family took it upon ourselves to order our own face masks. We ordered from a site called Board Shorts World, after a recommendation from a relative.

After some use, here’s my opinion of Board Shorts World’s face mask.

The first thing that I or anyone else will notice is the print. I choose the “School Life” print in brown, which is basically like having a Hawaiian shirt on your face. Because if you’re going to live through a major historical event, you might as well do it in style.

The second thing I noticed was how soft and comfy it felt after putting it on for the first time. Both the inner and outer layers are incredibly soft to the touch, and the mask is super comfortable to wear. It was a little loose at first, but all I had to do was add a knot on each elastic band and I was good to go.

There’s only one small negative to this mask. When you exhale, all of the air heads straight upward. As a result, this mask fogs up your glasses quite a bit. But then again, how many masks don’t fog glasses? A mask has got to be fairly thick to effectively prevent spreading the virus, and in my opinion that is more important than how clouded your glasses may get, even if the fog makes you feel like you’re in the harbor scene of a noir detective movie.

The virus can kill. Fog can’t.

And really, that’s all there is to know. It’s a nice, solid mask for the price, just be prepared those of you who are optically impaired. Or those of you who wear sunglasses 24/7 like you’re in a Blues Brothers movie. It’s okay, we don’t judge.
