1. On Saturday and Sunday, around 6,500 migrants were rescued off Libya by the Italian navy in one of the biggest rescue operations to date.

2. After a year in isolation, six experiment participants and scientists emerged from the Mars simulation dome on the slopes of Hawaiian volcano Mauna Loa. The experiment was the longest of its type ever conducted.

3. On Sunday, Willy Wonka star Gene Wilder died at the age of 83 due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.

4. According to New York Post last week, former Representative Anthony Weiner has been caught in another sexting scandal, leading to an announced intended separation between Weiner and his wife, Hillary Clinton’s top aide, Huma Abedin.

5. Early Sunday in Ithaca, New York, an Ithaca College student was killed after being stabbed during a fight on the Cornell University campus.

6. Forty-two years after the discovery of Lucy, the world’s most well-known fossil, researchers from the University of Texas at Austin now believe they have solved her death and how she came to her final resting place. Reportedly, Lucy may have fallen out of a tree.

7.  In response to the outcry over EpiPen price rises, which sent Mylan shares dropping about 12% over the course of the past week, Mylan chief executive Heather Bresch has announced that the company will soon be selling cheaper, more generic versions of the product.

8. In an act of protest against police brutality, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sat through the national anthem before the football game between the 49ers and Green Bay Packers on Friday. His act has sparked national outrage, especially among 49ers fans.

9. Around 60 people were killed in a suicide car bombing at a military facility in Aden, a city in Yemen this week.
