1. The 2016 Summer Olympics have concluded after the closing ceremony on August 21st. The USA came in first place with a total medal count of 121 (46 Gold), followed by Great Britain and China.

2. Between Aug. 11 and Aug. 14, more than 20 inches of rain fell in Baton Rouge. 40,000 homes were destroyed and 10 people were killed.

3. After fabricating claims that he had been robbed at gunpoint, ‘Speedo’ has cancelled its sponsorship deal with Ryan Lochte. Ralph Lauren, Airweave, and Gentle Laser Hair Removal have also cut ties with the athlete.

4. U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor in Fort Worth issued a temporary block on President Obama’s directive on transgender student’s bathroom rights.

5. The Blue Cut Fire started on August 16, has been 89% contained. The fire forced the evacuation of over 80,000 people and has burned over 30,000 acres.

6. Pills seized inside Prince’s Paisley Park compound were found to be mislabeled. The pills, labeled ‘hydrocodone’, actually contained fentanyl, the drug which supposedly killed the artist. It is unknown whether the mislabeled pills were due to a manufacturing error, or illegal manufacturing.

7. A 66.3 million year old T-Rex skull was discovered in Montana. The skull is one of 15 T-Rex skulls ever discovered.

8. The Bryan/College Station area has received rain daily since the 13th of August, measuring to over 7 inches in total rainfall. Rain continues to be in the forecast for the next 10 days.

9. An annual military exercise by the USA and South Korea has prompted threats of nuclear retaliation from North Korea. Spokesmen from the North Korean military have warned the USA and South Korea to show no aggression during the drill.

10. The USA has launched a ground-based missile defense system in Romania, which will be operated by NATO. Russia has expressed security concerns with the plan.
