1. Earlier today, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump released his tax plans, which detailed intentions to reduce international trade agreements and cut down on the current tax system.

2. On August 4th, the Obama administration privately sent $400 million to Iran the same day that 4 captured Americans were released by the Iranian government, in two separate deals that were announced in January.

3. American Olympian Michael Phelps won his 19th gold medal in the 400 relay in Rio, making it a memorable night for the Team USA swimmers.

4. A rare Superman comic book was sold for at least $1 million dollars earlier this week with the claim that it is the first appearance of Superman.

5. On August 7th , Google employee Vanessa Marcotte was found dead near her mother’s house in Princeton, Massachusetts. Her death is now being considered a homicide.

6. Evan McMullin, an independent running as an Anti-Trump, announced his candidacy today. McMullin boasts an MBA from the Wharton School of Business and several years at both the CIA and Goldman-Sachs, despite never holding an elected position.

7. On August 8th, a suicide bomber trailed through a Pakistan hospital, setting off the device, leaving at least 70 dead. The bombing was claimed by both ISIS and an offshoot of the Taliban.

8. Japanese Emperor Akihito gave a unusual televised event, fearing his health will worsen, stating it may become too difficult for him to try and accomplish his duties as emperor. He would be the first emperor to abdicate in over 200 years, despite it being against the law.

9. Brazil achieves its first gold medal of the Rio games. Brazilian Olympian Rafaela Silva had fans ecstatic by the defeat of Mongolian athlete Sumiya Dorjsuren in the 57kg women’s judo division. However, the US still leads the total medal count.

10. Early Monday morning, no Delta flights took off due to system outage that lasted most of the day. The problem occurred due to a power outage in Atlanta which impacted the computer systems; hours later, many flights had taken off in addition to scores of cancellations and delays.
