Ten things to know for the week: March 21

1.Protests in Brazil over a variety of issues including charges of corruption against President Dilma Rousseff, and charges of corruption against many other government figures.  These protests are spurred by corruption, accompanied by major economic decline on top of the Zika virus.

2.Multiple car bombing have taken place in Turkey this past week.  The attack in Ankara killed at least 36 people and wounded over 100, in addition to the earlier attack in Istanbul. This a few of many recent attacks that were orchestrated by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) or an affiliated group.

3.President Barack Obama and his family made a historic trip to Cuba, becoming the first sitting president to visit Cuba since 1928. Despite many differences this trip is a monumental step in Cuba-U.S. relations as the embargo with Cuba is lifted.

4.Despite major opposition by Senate Republicans, Obama nominated a new Supreme court justice in Merrick Garland.  Garland is considered a more neutral choice and is the chief judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

5.More primaries were held this past Tuesday dubbed as “Mega Tuesday” by the media.  The states included Florida, Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina, and Iowa, with Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton winning the majority of the votes for the Republican and Democratic parties.

6.Apple held their keynote announcing products including the iphone SE, and a newly designed ipad pro, and apple watch.  The CEO Tim Cook also addressed recent apple controversy with the FBI ensuring safety to its customers.

7.Aipac, or the American Israel Public Affairs, is  a major pro-Israel group that is holding its conference this week.  Aipac heard speeches from presidential candidates Hillary Clinton, and Donald Trump.

8.Texas A&M beat Northern Iowa in Oklahoma with a last second epic comeback.  With 4 seconds left in the game, the aggies made a comeback after being twelve points down leading to two overtimes and a final score of 92-88.

9.Salah Abdeslam was arrested Friday in Brussels as a planner of the November Paris attacks.   Paris Prosecutor Francois Molins said that Abdeslam abandoned his own suicide vest and that he drove other attackers to Paris.

10.President Barack Obama traveled to Argentina and had a bi-lateral meeting, and met with Argentinians about concerns for the future of Argentina.
