1. Since Sunday, a storm system stretching from New Mexico to Georgia to Michigan has caused fatal tornadoes, blizzards and floods as it moves East. 11 were killed in Dallas on Saturday night because of the fierce storm conditions.

2. On Christmas Day, Pope Francis urged prayers for the people of Libya and Syria, saying that “they are the martyrs of today.”

3. Two Consol students, seniors Erika Salzman and Raymond Tjhia, received perfect scores on the SAT and ACT, respectively.

4. Starting on January 1st, the Chinese Government will officially be allowing two children per couple.

5. American artist Ellsworth Kelly, famous for combining shapes and color, died on Sunday. He was 92.

6. Over a period of three days, popular photoblog Humans of New York successfully raised $700,000 for 11 Syrian refugee families profiled on the blog.

7. Carole King, George Lucas, Rita Moreno, Seji Ozawa and Cicely Tyson received Kennedy Center Honors on December 6th. The gala will be broadcast on the 29th.

8. On Friday, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake shook Afghanistan, causing the displacement of 400 British Soldiers and several civilian injuries.

9. As of January 1st, the state of Texas will be enacting a new open carry law that will allow licensed gun owners to openly display handguns openly. Private businesses and other establishments will retain the right to ban open carry under the law.

10. On Wednesday, Iraqui troops made a new push to reoccupy the center of Ramadi. The city has been controlled by ISIS since May.
