A&M Consolidated’s varsity football team took on the Bryan Vikings at Merrill Green Stadium in the annual B/CS Bowl, better known as the original Crosstown Showdown. While things were looking slim for a while, the Tigers managed a 30-21 victory.

Early in the first quarter things weren’t looking good for the Tigers. Scoring a touchdown just 12 seconds into the game, Bryan promised tough competition, although Consol managed to bring the score to a tie by the end of the quarter.

The score remained tied for the majority of the second quarter at 14-14, although sophomore Kade Williams’ 28 yard field goal put the score at 17-14 by the end of the first half.

Consol came back in the second half and played hard, fumbling the ball at the six minute mark a mere 12 yards away from their own end zone. The ball was soon recovered by sophomore Trevor Williams at the 19 yard line and returned for a touchdown by senior Mason Hickson. The 30-21 victory earned the Tiger football team the “Brazos Boot”, a commemorative boot-shaped trophy awarded to the winning team of the Crosstown Showdown every year.

Consol will play against Caney Creek at home on October 16 for their Homecoming game.
