1. Brady Olson, a 15-year-old from Wallingford, Iowa, entered the presidential race as an independent candidate under the name “Deez Nuts”. This week, North Carolinian polls showed he had a 9% approval rating, which is higher than those of 12 of the Republican candidates.

2. Canadian hackers have exposed the personal data of millions of users of dating site Ashley Madison, which is largely used to promote extramarital affairs. Since the first reveal, two suicides have been attributed to the damage. In addition, Josh Duggar, former star of the TV show “19 Kids & Counting” has publicly apologized after he was revealed in the data leak.

3. Alexis Tsipras, the Prime Minister of Greece, has resigned among criticism of the Greek bailout deal. His resignation follows the departure of the finance minister, Yanis Varoufakis, on July 6.

4. The Chinese stock market continued to plummet, going a 8.5% down in the Shanghai Stock Exchange today. Because the Chinese economy is the second largest in the world, markets in Europe and the United States also dropped significant amounts, roughly measured around a 5% drop.

5. Anthony Sadler, Spencer Stone, and Alex Skarlatos stopped a gun attacker and potential massacre on a French train on Friday. Skarlatos, a National Guardsman, Stone, an Air Force Service man, and Stone are all American citizens who were grade school friends. Today, along with a Briton, they received France’s Legion of Honor, the highest award possible for their actions.

6. On Sunday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the militant group ISIL destroyed an ancient ruin in Palmyra, Syria. The site was a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was located extremely close to a Roman amphitheater.

7. Former Consol assistant principal Stormy Hickman opened up Spring Creek Elementary School, the ninth elementary school in the district, today. Hickman is the newly-appointed principal of the school.

8. Since Thursday morning, a group of five wildfires has burned in Washington, the largest recorded group in the state’s history. Three firefighters were killed and four others have been injured fighting the fire; President Barack Obama has signed a federal declaration of emergency.

9. At Ball State University, freshmen Lem Turner won free tuition for a semester by sinking a half-court shot. He is the second student in the past three years to make the shot.

10. Homemade Vanilla will be the first Bluebell flavor to return to stores on Monday, August 31. As of the present, all ice cream is manufactured in its Alabama plant.
