1. 27 CSISD students brought home awards from the SkillsUSA National Skills and Leadership Conference in Kentucky. One of Consol’s chapters received the Presidential Service Gold Level and Model of Excellence awards. Junior Kelly Krenek also received a scholarship to the Washington Leadership event in September. Check out the full contest results here.

2. Author J.K. Rowling recently revealed that a new play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, will debut in London’s Palace Theater in 2016. Hoping to catch the show? Don’t hold your breath. RadioTimes recently calculated the play would have to run for over 120 years for every Harry Potter fan to see it. The play is expected to sell out quickly when ticket sales begin this autumn.

3. NBC announced on Monday it would be joining Macy’s, Univision, the City of New York and several other organizations in cutting ties with presidential candidate Donald Trump. The decision to end relations was prompted by Trump’s offensive anti-Mexican immigrant remarks earlier this month.

4. Last Tuesday, New Jersey governor and Republican Chris Christie officially declared he was joining the growing list of presidential hopefuls.

5. On Wednesday the United States and Cuba agreed to reinstate embassies in each others’ capitals in an effort to formally re-establish diplomatic ties. The last time the embassies were in place was over 50 years ago.

6. Texas A&M professor Jose Bermudez completed a 3000 mile bicycle race last Friday. Bermudez biked for almost two weeks without stopping. All the money raised from sponsorships and donations was given to the BCS Habitat for Humanity.

7. A solar-powered plane broke records on Friday when it touched down in Hawaii five days after taking off from Japan. Pilot Andre Borschberg beat the previous non-stop solo flight record by 44 hours.

8. Matt Stonie celebrated Independence Day by inhaling 62 hot dogs in 10 minutes, effectively earning first place in Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.  He won $40,000 and told reporters, “I trained hard for this.”

9. Yesterday Princess Charlotte, fourth in line to the British throne, was christened at St. Mary Magdalene Church. Thousands of well-wishers waited outside the church to catch a glimpse of the newest addition to the royal family.

10. The “no” vote took the majority at the Greek referendum yesterday with 61.31% of the vote. This means Greece- which is currently over $380 billion in debt- will reject the eurozone’s bailout offer and seek better measures. Prime ministers and presidents of European nations, as well as the European Central Bank, are among those arranging meetings after the result. Whether or not Greece should retain its membership in the European Union has been called into question.
