A&M Consolidated wins handily in final district game

A&M Consolidated finished their district schedule with a win at home over the Livingston Lions 63-7. With this coming after a 57-7 win over Rudder the week before, the Tigers will go into the playoffs with plenty of momentum.

The Tigers scored 49 unanswered points through the third quarter, and were able to use their second-string players throughout the second half. Junior Dayden Lane replaced quarterback Mason Hickson, and Armond Jones and Tarvarias Young got the bulk of the carries in the second half after the starters scored five touchdowns in the first.

Livingston’s only points came off a pick-six deep into their own territory, about midway into the third quarter.

Junior Tyri Merchant had another solid night rushing for the Tigers, despite only playing the first half. He managed to run for 138 yards and three touchdowns in that time, though, as he led the offense. His replacement in the second half, Armond Jones, scored two touchdowns, while Derrick Dick, Luke Benden, Cade Williams, and Kennon Williams accounted for the other three touchdowns.

While this game had no effect on Consol’s playoff destination, another matchup within their district did. Had Willis defeated Huntsville, the Tigers would play at Tigerland next week. However, Huntsville pulled out seven points in the final minute of the game, so now Consol will travel to San Marcos on Friday to play Temple.
