Volleyball team continues shutout streak with win over Caney Creek

by Austin Coats, sports editor

After shutting out Bryan and Livingston the previous week, the volleyball team started off the week with another shutout. This time the victim was Caney Creek, as the Tigers won the first game 25-11 and the final two games 25-15, strengthening their overall record to 24-12.

After allowing the first point, the Tigers went on cruise control, never conceding their three-point lead. This dominance continued into the next game with a mixture of sheer power and teamwork keeping them in front after a 4-0 run to start the game.

In the third game, the Tigers took an early lead, but seemed to show fatigue. They played less sharply than they had played in the the first two games and had trouble closing out the game from a 24-11 lead, but they did win it in the end.

Many players left their mark on this game. Seniors Kelly Karstadt and Mindy Hudspeth led in kills with nine and eight respectively, while junior Haley Slocum contributed 20 assists. Senior Paige Kopetsky continued her strong play at libero with 14 digs, while senior Mattie DeWitt had six blocks.

The Tigers will try to continue their run as they travel to Huntsville this Friday, Sept. 26.
