On May 5, Junior Wide Receiver Derrick Dick, who also plays basketball and baseball, committed to the University of Texas at San Antonio. As a result, twitter erupted with tweets of congratulations to Derrick. Here’s his take on the situation:

What were some factors that contributed to your decision to commit to UTSA?

I went to their spring game and they made me want to come back and treated me like I was like a part of the family already.

What are you most looking forward to at UTSA?

Just playing football at the next level [and] just getting that experience that college football brings.

Who has been your greatest support during this process?

Probably my receiver coach, Coach Cope. He’s really gotten me all this recruiting stuff and he’s been having my back since sophomore year, so he’s been there for me the most.

How do you feel about senior Kerry Thomas also committing to UTSA?

It’s good, we’re really good friends. If I end up going there it’ll be fun.

You also recently received an offer from Southern Mississippi… what are your feelings towards that?

I know they have a good program [and] they run an air raid offense, which fits me. I know I’m gonna give it a look out but I’m still on UTSA right now.

What are some of your goals for your senior year and then into college at UTSA?

My goal for senior year is just to get farther than we did last year. We have a really good chance with the coaching we have and what Coach Raffield and Coach Cope are bringing in. I know our defense and Coach Williams are doing a good job.

What are some of the lessons you have learned from playing football at Consol?

Be respectful. They teach you how to be a gentlemen and just really want you to be respectful to everybody.
