Bright flowers in the hallways today marked the end of the annual Student Council “Be-You-tiful Week,” a week dedicated to raising the self-esteem of students and emphasizing inner beauty instead of outer beauty.

On Monday, members of Student Council taped sticky notes with motivational quotes and sayings around the school, from the mirrors in the bathroom to lockers and hallways. Some of the inspirational messages included, “You’re beautiful!” and “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You are the beholder.”

Videos and slideshows were played during all lunches showing some of the negative effects of unrealistic beauty standards. Many students also participated by buying Compliment-a-grams, where they wrote short compliments and got them delivered to friends during advocates on Friday.
