Lady Tigers soccer hosted their annual Crosstown Showdown against Bryan High School on Friday, Feb. 7. In spite of the weather conditions (an unpleasant 36 degrees and light rain) and muddy field, the Tigers still performed well, pulling a 5-0 win over Bryan.

Consol had the first kickoff and kept and moved the ball on Bryan’s side of the field, a trait that would continue throughout the whole game.

With just two minutes into the game, senior Mycah Miller scored with an assist from senior Allyson Fowler. A mere seven minutes after that, it happened again, this time with a well-placed corner kick that allowed Miller to head the ball in.

For the remainder of the first half, the ball fluctuated up and down the field, but Consol stayed in control–in no small part to great playing on the part of their midfielders and defenders. Senior Alex Stewart and junior Shannon O’Donovan both kept the ball moving up the field through passes and solid throw-ins.

The second half proved to be similar to the first, with several attempted goals blocked by the Viking goalie. Bryan seemed to be gaining momentum, with one forward about to initiate a showdown with goalkeeper Reagan McGinnis. Fortunately for Consol, junior Macie Morales outstripped the Viking, and cleared the ball to the other side of the field

With half of the second half remaining, Consol scored again and returned to form. They kept the ball firmly on Bryan’s side of the field, scoring twice more before the end of the game. In total, the Tigers scored five points over Bryan.

This year’s Crosstown Showdown also served as a tribute to would-be junior Sydney Jeter. Jeter played for the soccer team before she passed away last August in a tragic car accident. Before the match, Jeter’s club and school teammates gathered on the field with her family to say a prayer.
