The Roar talks with freshman Paige Alvarez, whose passion is playing school and competitive soccer.
How long have you been playing soccer?
Ever since I was four. I play on a select tournament team, Challenge, and am also playing for the high school.
Why did you start playing?
I like soccer because it’s not just a sport to me, it’s everything. If I didn’t have soccer, I wouldn’t be me. Also, sometimes when I’m mad it gets my anger out, and it teaches me life lessons, but mainly it teaches me how to have fun because life is supposed to be fun.
What’s your favorite position to play?
Well, I play central back, holding mid[fielder], attacking mid[fielder], and right-back.
Favorite player?
My favorite player right now is Christiano Ronaldo, because he is fine and one heck of a player.
Favorite soccer team?
I have so many favorites. I like Chelsea, Barcelona, Madrid and for Nationals I like Brazil, Mexico and USA.
Who is your inspiration?
Probably my dad. He’s what pushed me to play. He also plays soccer.
How many hours in a week to you dedicate to soccer?
Since I play soccer outside of school too, I spend probably about 10 to 11 hours.
Do you like playing in a team?
Definitely. My soccer team is my second family.
