On Friday, Consol’s varsity football team faced off against the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs in the first home game of the season. The game started off slow, with neither teams scoring in the first quarter. The Tigers gained momentum in the second quarter, taking the lead and keeping it for the rest of the night.

The first goal of the game, a 22-yard field goal by senior Cade Williams, didn’t happen until a few minutes into the second quarter. Near the end of the second quarter, senior Tre Roberts scored the first touchdown of the night. The Tigers scored again to close out the first half with a 17-0 lead. In the third quarter, and Copperas Cove made a bid to close the gap with a 2-yard touchdown run. But it wasn’t enough. In the final quarter, a 24-yard touchdown run by junior Caden Fedora brought the score to 34-7. With just under 4 minutes left on the clock, the Bulldawgs managed to score one more time, ending the game with a final victory of 34-14 for the Tigers.

“For the first game I thought [the team] did really well, coming out and executing how they did. We struggled early on but after that, everything rolled right,” assistant coach Chad Bruggman said. “I think it’s an optimistic start, but we’ve still got a long way to go.”
