In Brief: January Meeting of CSISD Board of Trustees

by Vi Burgess, editor-in-chief

The College Station Independent School District Board of Trustees met on the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 17 for their monthly public meeting. After brief administrative rearrangements relating to the position of trustees on various committees, the discussion of issues began.

Superintendent Clark Ealy commented briefly on the newly-released TEA A-F “What If” ratings, in which CSISD as a district as well as many of the schools it comprises did not do well on some or all of the four measures. Ealy stressed that the rating was more reflective of a level of poverty than CSISD’s quality of education and that the trustees and administration had vocally opposed the new rating system prior to the actual release of results.

Deputy Superintendent Greg McIntyre presented a short slideshow about the effect of “Coaching Crews”, where a select, trained team of teachers, specialists and administrators helps to review and correct teachers in their own classroom. CSISD is in the fourth year of implementing this program.

The Board of Trustees also voted to approve a school calendar for 2017-2018. To view the calendar, go here

The Board of Trustees will meet again on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in the CSISD Boardroom.
