3. On Tuesday, the 93-year-old former prime minister and president of Israel Shimon Peres died after more than 50 years in politics. Peres was one of the founders of modern Israel, and is best known for brokering the Oslo Accords. Officials say his death comes about two weeks after he suffered a stroke.

4. Scientists reported on Tuesday that five months ago the first baby with DNA obtained from three different people was born. The procedure combines parts of two eggs and one sperm to hopefully avoid passing on genetic diseases. The baby is reportedly doing well.

5. The FBI recently announced that it is looking into suspected attempts to hack the cell phones of Democratic Party staffers. There aren’t a lot of details released yet, and whether or not the hack actually happened is still in question. This comes after a summer when news broke that both the DNC and the Hillary Clinton campaign were hacked. US officials think those hacks were orchestrated by the Russian government.

6. On Wednesday, Congress voted to overrule President Obama’s veto on the 9/11 victims bill. The bill would give the families of victims the right to sue Saudi Arabia for any role it may have had in the terrorist attacks. This is the first time Congress has overridden one of Obama’s vetoes in his presidency.

7. In South Carolina last week on Wednesday, a teenager opened fire at an elementary school. Two young students and a teacher were wounded, but all three are expected to survive. Before going to the school, the teenager allegedly shot and killed his father at home. The suspected shooter is now in custody.

8. For the first time in eight years, OPEC recently agreed to cut oil output. OPEC countries have been fighting for years about whether to cut their oil supply to help raise prices. Oil prices rose and have risen significantly since the news broke.

9. On Thursday morning, a rush-hour train crashed through barriers at a high speed at the Hoboken, NJ Station. The station is one of the busiest commuter hubs in the New York City and New Jersey area. One woman standing on the platform was killed. More than 100 were injured, most of them passengers.

10. On Friday, Consol’s homecoming queen, Lydia Garcia, and king, Robert Franklin, were announced at the pep rally and homecoming football game. Consol held its homecoming dance on Saturday night in the school cafeteria.
