The Roar keeps you updated with local news, recent events and interesting stories ― everything you need to know for this week.

1. On Saturday, there was a bombing in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood that injured 29 people. Officials said that police found a pressure cooker a few blocks away from the blast site that had dark colored wiring sticking out connected to what they believe is a cellphone with duct tape. Officials believe that this may be the explosive device. Police have not found out who was responsible for the explosion or a motive.

2. A blast in New Jersey near a Marine Corps charity run was on the same day as the other explosion. Investigators have found many similarities between the two bombings, including finding a video showing the same man at both sites. They have not concluded that these incidents are linked, though. Law enforcement finds it too soon to call the attacks “terrorist attacks”.

3. In Minnesota, a man stabbed nine people in a mall on the same day as the bombing in New York City. He was shot dead at the site but is apparently a “soldier of the Islamic state” according to an ISIS-linked news agency. The FBI believes the attack is a potential terrorist act.

4. At a Trump campaign, Trump announced the bombings in New York before news of it was released to the public. He filled in the audience on what was happening. Clinton, on the other hand, spoke to reporters after the incident and called in the incident a “bombing” and believes this will have no effect on the 2016 race.

5. A recent study shows that brain cancer has surpassed leukemia in the list of most deadliest cancers for kids and teens. This change has happened only because there has been a major advancement in leukemia treatment and barely any progress for the treatment of brain cancer.

6. The Emmys aired last night and among the winners was Rami Malek in “The Robot” for best lead actor in a drama series, Tatiana Maslany in “Orphan Black” for best lead actress in a drama series, “The People v. O.J. Simpson: An American Crime Story” for outstanding limited series, “Game of Thrones” wins Top Drama, and “Veep” wins Top Comedy.

7. The San Diego Chargers defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars with score of 38-14. Philip Rivers matched his career-high with four touchdown passes in this game.

8. Iranian para-cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad died following a crash in a race on Saturday. He received treatment at the site but suffered a cardiac arrest and was taken to a hospital. Shortly after arriving, he passed away.

9. Texas A&M defeated the Auburns over the weekend. The score was 29-16. The Aggies are now 3-0 for the third year straight.

10. China brought one of the Seven Medieval Wonders back to life. The Porcelain Tower, which was built in the 15th century, was destroyed 150 years ago. China has been working on reconstructing a modern, steel version of it in its place and finished over the weekend.
