The Tigers claimed their first win of the season against the Austin High Maroons on Friday, September 9, Consol’s second home game. The Tigers took an early lead, but the Maroons fought to catch up. However, Consol executed several impressive plays and pulled ahead to a clear victory.

A 66-yard pass from quarterback and junior Cade Williams to wide receiver and senior Tony Williams resulted in the first touchdown of the night, on the first play from the line of scrimmage . With 11:50 left in the first quarter, the Tigers took the lead with a score of 7-0. Running back and senior Robert Franklin scored the second touchdown shortly afterward. With 40 seconds left in the first quarter, the Maroons responded by driving 49 yards down the field to bring the score to 14-7.

The Tigers closed with a halftime score of 21-7. After the Maroons scored again, Cade Williams made a 20-yard touchdown scramble in the third quarter to widen the gap to 35-14. Consol kept up a strong defense during this quarter, with defensive back and junior Chase Martinez making 3 consecutive blocks towards the end of the third quarter, which ended with a score of 42-14.

The final touchdown of the night resulted from a pass to wide receiver and senior Burl Carraway, bringing the Tigers to their first season victory with the final score of 48-14.

“We executed really really well at times. There are some things we have to continue to work on, because we gave up some plays that we shouldn’t have given up,” defense coordinator Dale Williams said. “But bottom line- they’re a good football team. The kids played really well. We did what we were supposed to do, we won.”
