1. A letter penned by the sexual assault victim of Stanford student Brock Turner went viral this week. The letter criticized Turner’s 6-month sentence, made out of fear that a longer punishment “would have a severe impact” on the swimmer’s promising future. Petitions to recall the case’s judge have garnered more than 350,000 signatures.

2. This week marked the beginning of public previews for “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”. J.K. Rowling has promised that the highly anticipated play will pick up where the last book of the beloved children’s series left off.  

3. The Associated Press declared Hillary Clinton the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee last Monday night. President Obama later announced his endorsement for the former Secretary of State and met with Bernie Sanders in hopes of convincing his followers to support Clinton’s campaign.

4. On Tuesday, Microsoft announced that it may have found a new way to diagnose pancreatic cancer. The company’s scientists say that by analyzing the past search queries of people with the illness, they have been able to identify early symptoms in internet users.

5. The Venezuelan government rolled out a new plan last Wednesday to tackle the country’s widespread food shortages. The move has been criticized as an attempt to monopolize food distribution.

6. A shooting in Tel Aviv on Wednesday led to the revocation of 83,000 Palestinian entry permits into Israel.

7. Last Thursday, the World Health Organization released a statement advising women living in areas affected by the Zika virus to consider delaying pregnancy.

8. The European soccer championship, second in size only to the World Cup, kicked off in France on Friday. Paris officials say the country is on high alert for security threats from terrorists at the crowded sports event.

9. Singer Christina Grimmie passed away on Saturday after being shot while signing autographs after a concert. Police say the motive behind the former “The Voice” contestant’s murder is still unknown.

1o. In what authorities are calling the worst terror attack since 9/11, 50 people were gunned down on Sunday in an Orlando LGBTQ nightclub. ISIS has since claimed responsibility for the massacre.
