1. On Tuesday, February 9, the New Hampshire primary was held; Bernie Sanders, the predicted winner, won the Democratic vote and Donald Trump won the Republican votes.

2. On Saturday, February 6, Consol’s wrestling team won their first District Tournament championship with 167 points.

3. Antonin Scalia, conservative and Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, was found dead Saturday morning, February 13. The high court is now left without its conservative majority; Obama has decided to nominate Scalia’s successor despite the opinions of the Republicans to leave that choice to the next President.

4. Consol’s boys swim team won 2nd overall at Regionals and girls won 5th The swim team also has 9 individuals and 5 relays going to state.

5. On Saturday, February 13, a 6 year old died from the bit of an Eastern Brown Snake; this snake’s bit is often painless. Although Australia is home to 20 of the 25 deadliest snakes, their fatality percentage is low.

6. Activists and women’s rights groups are pushing for loser abortion laws in Brazil due to the rise of the Zika virus among Brazilian babies. Brazil, being mostly Catholic, has a strong anti-abortion consensus and abortion is currently illegal except in cases of dangerous circumstances. (Russia has now reported its first case of the Zika virus)

7. Hayden Godfred, 17, saved $450 and passed out 900 carnations to every girl at Utah’s Sky View High School (his high school) for Valentine’s Day last Thursday.

8. Last Saturday, a pileup occurred in Fredericksburg, Pennsylvania involving dozens of vehicles on an interstate highway and leaving three dead and dozens of others injured. The cause for this accident is blamed for the freezing weather in the Northeast. As a result, Officials say New York City is experiencing one of the coldest temperature outbreaks in 20 years.

9. Brianna Hildebrand, A&M Consolidated alumni, appeared in the movie theaters as mutant Negasonic Teenage Warhead during the premiere of Deadpool this past week.

10. Texas State Representative John Raney, will speak at Consol Tuesday, February 16 in the auditorium during government classes.
