Bush’s Chicken: Not spectacular but sufficient

by Maya Girimaji & Annie Zhang, features editor & editor-in-chief

IMG_8244Bush’s Chicken is located next to Tower Point H-E-B and just opened this month, so The Roar decided to try it out. Was it amazing? Probably not.  But they do serve liver, so if that’s what you like, have a go at that.

The Service: Entering Bush’s Chicken was like entering any other fast food restaurant. Walk in, look at the menu, decide what you want, order your food and wait until you receive it. The cashiers were patient with us as we ordered our food and probably knew that it was our first time there since we were so surprised when asked if we wanted a wing, thigh or breast. Yet, unlike other fast food restaurants, they took less than two minutes to serve us a full plate of food. Rate: 8/10

The Atmosphere: Red, yellow and gloomy: Bush’s Chicken is your typical fast food restaurant. We arrived just after school ended, and the place was empty except for a few police officers (and later some firefighters and even our own classmates). Like its contemporaries, Bush’s is definitely not a place to stay long for, but it’s certainly not bad to stop by and grab some food from. Rate: 5/10

The Food: We both ordered the chicken snack pack (around $4), which came with a piece of chicken –wing, thigh or breast — a roll and your choice of sides. The chicken was still hot, though a bit too salty for our taste. But it was REAL CHICKEN (!!!) Both of our sides — french fries and macaroni & cheese — were the best things on the plate and reminiscent of the good ol’ days. Bush’s had its own brand of hot sauce and spiced salt for the chicken. The hot sauce was mildly spicy and had a strong taste of barbecue. The spiced salt went great with the macaroni & cheese, only if you like to add a little kick to your pasta. There was a good amount of food on the plate that satisfied our after-school hunger. Overall, the food wasn’t fantastic, but hey, to each his own. With places like Chick Fil’ A and Whataburger, Bush’s isn’t at the top of our list of fast food restaurants that serve chicken. Rate: 7/10
