How did you get the idea to start this club?

I actually had this idea for like three or four years but I never really did anything about it because I was sort of afraid that other people wouldn’t be interested. I feel like a lot of cultures are either misrepresented or underrepresented at this school so I was just thinking we could give people the chance to show their own cultures and to be more internationalized. In college, there are all these international clubs and I just thought it would be a good idea.

What is your main goal for the future of the club?

Probably to have more members and hopefully to get in touch with international study abroad groups but if not, it is just a place people can feel comfortable to come and learn about other cultures and have fun.

What is a typical meeting like?

We have people do presentations on their own culture and we have food at every meeting. Either the presenter will make their cultural food or we will have other food available and we will watch cultural movies. It’s just like culture everything. There is a different cultural theme every meeting.

So far has the club succeed like you hoped?

Yes, it has been going pretty well.

What kind of activities or projects will you do throughout the year?

I have been thinking about doing Syrian refugees donations and possibly other donations as well. We’ll probably set up a booth a World Fest and volunteer there. We are going to have cultural dinners and we are thinking about doing a cultural fashion show. This club also gives people a chance to learn a language the school is not offering or is not commonly taught; if someone knows a language, they can teach it to other people at the club.

Why do you think this club is important?

It gives a stage for everyone to present their own uniqueness. There are a lot of misunderstandings between different students and communities because we don’t know enough about each other. We only see what’s on the surface and not the actual beauty of a culture so the club is just more educational and fun.

How did you get this club going?

I had this idea that was shared between me and another senior two years before me but we never did anything about it. Now it is my senior year, so I thought I could do something with it because I think it’s a really good idea. I just basically wrote the bi-laws by myself and then I made all the posters to advertise.
