Desi Day celebrates South Asian cultures

by Michelle Liu and Shilpa Saravanan, managing editor and opinions editor

Between classes today, familiar pop and country tunes found themselves edged out by “Beware,” a collaboration between Panjabi MC and Jay-Z, along with other Bhangra tunes. Various students (and a few teachers!) donned traditional cultural fashions. For the uninformed, it might seem like a mockery, but to everyone else? Enter Desi Day.

Held once a semester, Desi Day offers students the opportunity to embrace Desi culture, be it their own or merely one they appreciate. This semester’s celebration was organized by seniors Ankur Annapareddy, Ronak Noorani and Shankar Srinivasan. Academic tutor Elizabeth Cunha opened the learning lab after school to participants for games, food and music.
