How long have you been playing tennis?

Since I was twelve, so four years.

What got you into playing tennis?

I started playing soccer when I was little. I guess everybody was bigger than I was, and I couldn’t keep up. A bunch of my friends were playing tennis so I tried it.

How is playing for high school different than playing for fun?

I play competitively. School [tennis] is different because it’s a team thing, and on your own you don’t have to worry about looking out for anybody but yourself. Also, playing for high school I play for doubles, and [on my own] I don’t do that.

What is your favorite part of playing tennis?

I like competing and meeting new people at tennis.

What types of workouts/practices do you do to prepare for meets?

Usually in [school] we do hitting drills, and sprint drills. Outside of [school], I normally hit [tennis balls] on my own. Usually during the summer I go to the gym more and do different workouts.

How do you feel before tennis meet?

I get nervous, so I just go out and do the best I can, but the whole team keeps everybody positive.

How do you think you’ve gotten better at tennis over the years?

Well, my strokes have improved, and I’ve worked more on my fitness. Also [I’ve learned] mentally, because in the beginning you don’t always understand significance of certain [drills], so now I know how to handle it better.

What plans for tennis do you have in the future?

I plan to stick with tennis past high school, but in terms of playing for college, I don’t think that I’ll play for a D-1 school. I’ll probably play club team.
