On Friday night, A&M Consolidated played another close game with the crowd getting tense as the clock ticked down the final moments. In a game that closely resembled last week’s against Copperas Cove, Consol once again proved that the game isn’t over until the clock reads exactly 0:00.

About two minutes into the game, Derrick Dick had a 65-yard reception from Kobe Miller for a touchdown, starting Consol off with a 7-0 lead after Daniel Zivney’s completed point after touchdown.

Midway quickly replied to the score with a 31-yard pass, tying Consol 7-7 with four minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Brandon Jackson rushed 100 yards this game, his effort evident throughout the entire game. As Consol lined up at the 25-yard line for first and 10, Jackson made efforts to run and was pulled down by Midway, but gradually gained yardage and pushed Consol forward.

DJ Jackson forced a Midway fumble, and Riley Garner scooped it up for another touchdown for Consol, bringing the score to 21-7 with 4:46 remaining in the first quarter. The first punt leads to a short run by Jackson, bringing the score to 28-7.

Shortly after the second quarter began, Kobe Miller threw his third touchdown pass 13 yards to Zivney, Consol still in the lead with 34-7. The field goal for extra point was blocked.

Midway followed with a touchdown, bringing the score up to 34-14.

Dick rushed 30 yards with a  kickoff return and was brought down, followed by Jackson on the carry who was also brought down.  Consol took a time out, at the third down with six yards to go. Consol took a field goal; at the end of the first half, the score was 34-14.

Midway leapt for touchdown reception fairly early in the third quarter, further closing the gap with a 37-27 score. Consol still held the lead with 6:07 remaining in the quarter.

KJ Dukes rushed after a fake kick set-up but was brought down, followed by Jackson on a tossed pass with a 12-yard gain. On a fourth down kick, Zivney’s kick goes down.

Midway pushed through after a missed tackle from Consol, pulling up right behind Consol with 37-34.

Derrick Dick made a 34-yard kick off return, but was injured, exiting the play with special teams.

Zivney punted to begin the fourth quarter with Midway reception; Brett Harp ended the carry.

The ball was on the 5, but Midway made a run, moving the play to the 26-yard line. There was confusion, but the referee determined a fumble.

Midway kept pushing, scoring a touchdown on the carry. They took the lead with 41-37.

On-and-off reception attempts followed; Miller was sacked before attempted pass.

Tigers pushed on the 1 for a touchdown, bringing the score to 44-41, clinging to the lead with 2:16 remaining in the game.

Tigers’ onside kick was re-taken after a flag is thrown. Consol began to fire up defense, closing notorious gaps present in the third quarter.

Midway overthrew and Consol takes possession again, on the 44 with first and 10.

Tigers took a timeout with 52 seconds remaining and received a delay of game penalty.

Three seconds remain with little play significance–Midway’s pass was short, and Consol won with 44-41.

In short, Consol played a solid game, but will need to tighten up their second half play if they hope to hold out against Austin Westlake, ranked 13th in the state, next Friday.
